Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Rosalia, Lizzo, and many more, were among the most nominated artists. Though, who received the most accolades?

Kicking the night off, renowned British pop singer, Rita Ora, and New Zealand actor and filmmaker, Taiki Waititi, host the 2022 MTV Europe Music Awards in Dusseldorf, Germany. At the red-carpet pre-show, Rita Ora was presented with an EMA for Best Personal Look/Style (MTV EMA) and Armani White performed his Tiktok hit, “Billie Eilish”.

David Guetta and Bebe Rexha opened the night, performing their techno/pop duet of “I’m Good (Blue)”. Grammy-winning Gorillaz, an alt rock band, headlined the show and performed a powerful alt-rock act, energizing the crowd. Ava Max performed “Million Dollar Baby” with a Top Gun Maverick theme of “I Ain’t Worried” by One Republic followed by GAYLE’s Tiktok hit, “abcdefu”, and Tate McRae with “she’s all i wanna be” and “uh oh”. During these powerful and entertaining performances, who went home with the most EMAs and biggest titles?

Making a surprise appearance, Taylor Swift was the artist of the night, receiving the most EMAs. Her four awards included Best Artist (MTV EMA), Best Pop (MTV EMA), Best Longform (MTV EMA) and the coveted Video of the Year (MTV EMA) award for “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version). During her acceptance speech, she continuously thanked the Swifties and Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien for acting in her 10-minute movie.

Opening the EMA ceremony with their duet, “I’m Good (Blue)” French electronic DJ, David Guetta and American pop singer, Bebe Rexha won Best Collaboration (MTV EMA). The two star-strucked the crowd with their techo/pop performance. Rexha paid homage to their duet with her blue gown on the red carpet. Additionally, Guetta individually won Best Electronic (MTV EMA).

Scoring two EMAs, Nicki Minaj is one of the second-highest EMA recipients tonight. The hip-hop icon won Best Hip-Hop (MTV EMAs) and Best Song (MTV EMAs) for “Super Freaky Girl”, one of her most recent and popular singles. Though, she wasn’t there in person, she thanked MTV on Instagram, feeling greatly appreciated.

Showing the world what it means to have a dedicated fanbase, BTS won the first-ever MTV EMA category, Biggest Fans (MTV EMA). With voting opening two days before the award show, fans of nominees, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Blackpink, Harry Styles, and Lady Gaga had less than 48 hours to prove who has the biggest fans. The BTS ARMY came through, once again, to support the seven talented and devoted members of BTS.

Although having seven nominations, Harry Styles won two EMAs for Best Live (MTV EMA) and Best UK Act (MTV EMA). This shocked many fans, entertainment, and music sites as many assumed Styles would be the artist of the night, taking home the most EMAs. Nevertheless, Harry Styles was one of many artists with the second-most wins.

After two years of inactivity, female K-pop group, Blackpink scores two EMAs for Best Metaverse Performance (MTV EMA) with PUGB Mobile and individually, Lisa wins Best K-Pop (MTV EMA). Since their comeback with their latest album, Born Pink, the girl group makes their entry into the American music industry and embarks on their Born Pink Asia Tour.

The Europe Music Awards (EMAs) presented The Generation of Change Award to three inspirational women who fought for those impacted by the humanitarian crisis in in Ukraine. Lina Deshvar, one of the recipients, visited hospitals and provided humanitarian aid to families with children with disabilities. Anna Kutova, another recipient, helped open five shelters for internally displaced people, LGBTQ+ people, and recovering alcoholic and drug abusers. Anfisa Yakonina counsels and delivers psychological aid for refugees and support groups for Ukranian mothers.

Their generous efforts inspire us to assist those in the time of conflict and unjust in the world. The EMAs not only highlight musical achievements of artists, but those who inspire change in the world.
