What started as a childhood hobby soon became a lifelong dream. At family gatherings, Perry would spend the day filming, then bring everyone together at night for a viewing. The joy and reactions from his loved ones fueled his passion, pushing him to pursue filmmaking beyond home videos.
Perry had considered the idea for Batter’s Box for over a decade. Drawing from the trauma he experienced as a child while trying to pursue baseball, he began documenting key moments from his past. Eventually, he decided to share his story through film.
“[I had the idea for] Batter’s Box maybe 10 to 12 years ago,” Perry said. “I jotted down some key points of the story because it was such a traumatic experience for me. I thought, ‘Man, I want to make a movie about that.'”
To ensure authenticity, Perry conducted interviews with his own family, uncovering perspectives he hadn’t fully understood as a child. Through these conversations, he realized that Batter’s Box was not just his story—it was his family’s.
“I had to sit down with my dad because it involved him too,” Perry explained. “I had to interview him to understand what was happening from his point of view as I told the story.”

The film delivers a powerful message about perseverance in the face of adversity. Perry hopes it encourages young people to speak up and not allow mistreatment or life’s hardships to deter them from their goals.
“The main point was to encourage youth not to give up on their talents despite life circumstances—not to let outside interference stop you from achieving your goals,” Perry said. “At age 11 or 12, I quit baseball, so we don’t even know what the future would have held for me if I had stayed.”
Perry believes storytelling is a vital form of self-expression and encourages aspiring filmmakers to start small—whether by picking up a camera or simply jotting down their thoughts and ideas.
“Pick up a camera and start filming because you’re going to naturally grow as far as what your eyes see,” Perry advised.
With Batter’s Box, Perry has delivered an inspiring and deeply moving film that has touched the hearts of many. Audiences eagerly await what he will create next.
