This past summer, ZHS students went near and far to enjoy their vacation. Some went up into the mountains, with their fresh, airy smell, while others headed to the beach with its salty water and warm sand. And getting out of the house can help with your social life and meet new people. Meeting new people can be great, and you might be able to make life-long friends or just part time friends. Being in the mountains is great: you can hike, learn about nature, and much more that can help your education while on vacation. When you are at the beach, yo
u can chase waves, try many new foods depending on where it is, and shop for souvenirs.
One student at Zachary High School, Brady Ragusa (9) spent his summer in Hawaii. He got ice cream and walked around the heart of the city. Ragusa said, “…I enjoyed the moments, but I feel like there could definitely be sometimes where I could have got out of the hotel…”

Ragusa wishes he could have explored more, and many students feel the same. Once school begins, the chance for more trips disappears quickly. Most students also sit and chill at home, which could be great in some ways, but there are many opportunities to go out and do things. Some might go and visit family or friends if they live far.
Another Zachary high student spent her summer playing various sports. Amelia Mitchem (11), a hitter on the volleyball team, practiced frequently during her summer vacation. Sports are an amazing way to spend your summer, letting you travel and be active.
But practice isn’t the only thing Mitchem did over the summer. Her and her family went to spend some time in Texas and get away from the action of practice
When asked about her vacation to Texas, Mitchem said, “…I went to Texas while we were on break for the summer, and we played beach volley with our family friends.”
Zachary High Student, Kennedy Payne (9) spent her time on the beach doing different activities with her family in Orange Beach.
“We went out to the beach.” Payne said. “We went swimming, and we got some ice cream.”
Payne did more than just spend time with her family. Her and her friends were able to go to the movies and enjoy an evening watching “How to Train Your Dragon” on the big screen.

Going to the movies with friends is a great way to spend time with the people you know and spend quality time with. However, not all students spent their summer outdoors; some used their time to pick up new skills. Another Zachary High student, Amaya Castillo (9), had spent the summer learning how to read music. Castillo decided to learn how to read music over the summer to help better prepare herself for her role in the ZHS Choir which she started in August. Learning to read music is a fantastic way to spend the summer and can help you with other learning opportunities. Skills like this can be helpful and effective ways to keep yourself busy in the summer.
If you are bored and want to learn something. That is how creative hobbies come into your life, and you learn something new, it is always great to learn things, you can never stop learning.
Next summer try planning trips ahead or try to learn something new. Whether it was traveling, learning something new, or simply spending time with friends and family, this summer offered endless opportunities for fun and growth. As we move into the school year, these experiences will be the stories we share and the memories we hold close.
