The ZHS Baseball team has had another great season. Historically, the Broncos have always been a strong program, capturing three straight state championship titles in the late 2000s, along with ending their 2018 season being ranked #1 by MaxPreps national baseball poll.
The Broncos earned big wins throughout their season, defeating high caliber programs like Brother Martin, Central, Sulphur, Northshore, and University High School, just to name a few. These big wins along with many more earned them a number four ranked spot in the LHSAA baseball championships, as well as a first-round bye going straight into the regional round. The Broncos would still use their free weekend to practice, prepare, and have some team bonding moments before they would take on the 13 seeded Ruston Bearcats at home.
Ruston and Zachary, two highly competitive schools, have always had their fair share of moments. The Broncos would waste no time, taking the first game from the Bearcats 6-3 on Friday night, and coming back Saturday shutting out the Bearcats and punching their spot for another home matchup versus the Hanville Tigers.

The very next weekend, the Broncos routed the Tigers 12-2 in the first of what would be a three-game series. Later that afternoon, the Tigers fired back, winning the second matchup and forcing a game three the next day. The weekend’s bad weather wouldn’t stop the Broncos, who rolled in Sunday afternoon’s game ready to rock. The Broncos were down early in the first inning but clawed back to even the score and take the lead, going to the semifinal round for the first time since 2017.

Mother Nature would continue to stall, but not for the Bronco faithful. Even though the bad storms and weather forced the Broncos to play their game far from home, the Bronco faithful continued to show out. Tailgating, showing up hours early, and even having the football tunnel for the players to walk through going into the dugout, the Broncos turned Live Oak high school right into John Herty Field.
That home field advantage would prove faithful, as the Broncos would take game 1 in the rainstorm over Livingston Parish. With many delays, (for weather and field maintenance) the Broncos still won. The next day, the Broncos would fall to the Dutchtown Griffins, losing games two and three and ending a historic run for the program. Even with this, the 2026 season continues to be one of the best in recent baseball history.
